We are so looking forward to the addition of our new class at South Coast Dance Festival.
How it will work
For this festival, the improvisation challenge for the stage event it will be Modern/Jazz themed
& for the classical event will be classical music & ballet themed.
The improvisation challenge is a way to practice a vital skill as a dance & also to have a bit of fun, showing us your own style & musicality.
The way the challenge will work – when you sign in you’ll collect your number (& safety pins) to pin on the front of you.
All dancers in your age group will go on to stage together, the adjudicator will then talk to you a little about what they are looking for in the challenge.
For the first round –
The adjudicator will set 16 counts for the dancers to begin their dance to, once learnt the dancers will have a chance to listen to the rest of the music to decide their improvisation.
Dancers will then be seen in groups of 2 or 3 depending on numbers, to show their learnt work & improvisation.
For the second round –
A new piece of music will be played, again the dancers will listen altogether & have chance to practice their improvisation.
For this round the adjudicator will ask for certain ballet steps to be included.
After this medals will be awarded & our winner of the challenge decided.
No dancers will be ‘eliminated’ all dancers will stay for the 2 rounds, the adjudicator will then place the dancers 1st-4th place.
